Khaptad,
Nepal´s newest and least visited National Park lies
in the middle hills of the Far West, consisting of a plateau
of grassland and thick forests at an elevation around 3.000
m. The forest consists of a mixture of tall fir, yew, rhododendron,
oak, and dense stands of smaller shrubs including bamboo.
The area provides cover for bear, leopard, barking and Musk
deer as well as many kinds of birds. The easiest access is
to fly to Nepalgunj and to drive to Dipayal (Silghadi) by
bus. The best time to visit is March-April and October-November.
Full camping supporting Trekking is essential. Nice views
of Api and Saipal Himal are major highlights of the area.
